How This Project Works in Class

In 2 hours and 45 minutes, students learn how robots sense, plan, and act, then use block coding and color sensors to program HaulBot to complete a real-world farm robotics challenge.

  1. 1

    Learn to Program HaulBot

    Robotics Bootcamp · 45 min

Students explore how robots help farmers with difficult and repetitive tasks, learn what a robot is, and practice giving HaulBot clear instructions using block coding, sequences, algorithms, and loops.

  2. 2

    Use Color Sensors

    Sensor Bootcamp · 40 min

Students learn how robots use sensors to understand their surroundings, then use color sensor blocks and loops to help HaulBot navigate to specific locations.

  3. 3

    Plan and Program HaulBot

Final EDP Challenge · 40 min

Students use the Engineering Design Process to understand the challenge, imagine possible solutions, plan HaulBot's path, and create their first version of the program.

  4. 4

    Test, Improve, and Share HaulBot

    Reflection · 40 min

Students test their code, improve their program, and record a show-and-tell video where they explain how their HaulBot solution works.

A clear guide walks you through how to launch and run your Qweebi project.

Early Teacher Feedback

HaulBot is a newer Qweebi project, and early classroom feedback is already helping us see how students respond to the challenge.

  • Student engagement

“My 8th graders recently completed the HaulBot coding challenge where they had to program their robot to haul hay bales in a certain amount of time. Students were engaged in the challenges and were competing with each other to collect the most bales for the final challenge.”
